Hydropower Station Construction, with SinoHydro Corp

2019-06-05

The Nam Theun 1 Hydropower Project, located in Laos, marks a significant milestone in the country's energy infrastructure development. Undertaken by China's leading engineering and construction company, Sinohydro Corporation, in 2019, Sinchold collaborated with Sinohydro on the construction of this hydropower station. During the construction process, Sinchold supplied the necessary track systems for heavy machinery operations, particularly crane rails along with their fasteners and accessories. These components are crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of heavy lifting activities during the assembly of the dam structure and other facilities.

Concrete pouring of the dam body is one of the most critical phases of the project, in which Sinchold also played a partial role. To ensure the structural integrity of the dam— vital for power generation and flood control— the concrete must be poured continuously to prevent cold joints that could compromise the dam's strength. High-quality concrete and precise placement techniques are employed to meet stringent engineering standards.

Beyond the main dam, the project included the development of supportive and temporary projects. Supportive projects may include access roads, worker accommodations, and power transmission lines, while temporary projects could involve cofferdams or diversion channels necessary for the dam's construction but not part of the final installation. All these elements collectively contributed to the successful completion of the Nam Theun 1 Hydroelectric Power Station, enhancing Laos' capacity for renewable energy production and economic growth.
